1ST & 2ND Grades

October 2017

Beat and Rhythm!!

1st and 2nd grades have been reviewing beat and rhythm (they are not the same!)

1st grade learned the song "Missus White." 2nd grade learned the song "Pass the Pumpkin." We discovered the beat, the rhythm patterns, and lyrics of these songs. 2nd grade also explored the melody. We had fun adding instrumental accompaniments.

In our first week of music, 1st and 2nd grade reviewed beat and rhythm with a cup-passing game called "Hiccup Buttercup". 

​

1st grade went on to learn all about steady beat. We learned that beat is the "heart of music." Next, 1st grade reviewed long and short sounds with the book "The Wide Mouthed Frog." We played the rhythms we learned on instruments.

2nd grade read a book called, "Too Much Noise." We discussed the different sounds in the book and chose instruments with tone colors similar to those noises. We read the story again playing instruments in place of those sounds.
