Save Fred!

I was on maternity leave the first week of GT this year (**SIDE NOTE: I have to say, although it is so hard leaving my sweet girl in the morning, my time with this group every day makes it a little more bearable. They are some awesome individuals!**), but the students were busy "building" up their engineering skills by creating structures from building blocks and sharpening their minds with strategy games. My first week back we jumped into STEM projects, which we will be completing many of this year! STEM stands for Science-Technology-Engineering-Math. We will also be completing many STEAM projects (adding Art into the equation). If you would like to know more about STEM/STEAM activities see my post (coming soon!)
Our friend, Fred, was stranded when his "boat" capsized! Students had to work together in pairs to save Fred. It was not an easy task, seeing as they could not touch Fred, the boat, or his "life raft" with their hands, only paper clips.

They had to think outside of the box and put their Science knowledge to work to successfully complete the task.

It was fascinating watching their different approaches and hearing their reasoning behind it. Each group managed to save Fred!
